About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and building large-scale distributed systems that power our platform. You'll work on challenging technical problems, lead architectural decisions, and help shape the future of our engineering organization while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain large-scale distributed systems that are reliable, scalable, and performant
- Lead technical architecture decisions and drive consensus across engineering teams on system design and implementation approaches
- Mentor and guide junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical discussions to elevate the overall team capability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions
- Establish and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement solutions that prevent future occurrences
- Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to maintaining system reliability and uptime
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, bringing innovative ideas to the team
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems and services
- Strong proficiency in Python or Go, with deep understanding of language features, performance characteristics, and ecosystem
- Proven experience designing and implementing distributed systems at scale, including knowledge of consistency models, fault tolerance, and distributed data storage
- Solid understanding of system design principles, including microservices architecture, API design, and service-oriented architecture
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues across multiple systems
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team growth
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both Python and Go in production environments
- Background in building high-throughput, low-latency systems
- Familiarity with message queuing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.) and caching technologies (Redis, Memcached)
- Experience with database technologies including both SQL and NoSQL solutions
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical writing/speaking experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
