Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems that power our platform. You'll work on challenging technical problems involving distributed systems, API architecture, and high-performance applications. This is a remote, full-time position open to candidates across the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and APIs that serve millions of requests
• Build and optimize distributed systems to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance
• Architect and implement RESTful APIs following industry best practices and design patterns
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with comprehensive test coverage
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain high code quality standards
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement solutions to improve system reliability
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team
• Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to our technology stack

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python or Node.js with deep understanding of their ecosystems
• Proven experience designing and building distributed systems at scale
• Extensive knowledge of RESTful API design principles and best practices
• Solid understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex systems
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote environment
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with microservices architecture and service-oriented design
• Knowledge of message queuing systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus)
• Understanding of security best practices and secure coding principles
• Contributions to open-source projects or technical writing

Compensation and Benefits
